| Our Brother Thomas Harper was born in England and immigrated to the
Carolina's around 1767 settling in Charles Town only to become one of the town's
jewelers. Brother Harper is listed as the first Junior Warden of Lodge No.
190 in Charles Town. Sometime during 1778, Brother Harper and a few other merchants purchased a
sailing ship and left Charles Town for St. Eustatius in the West Indies only to
return to Charles Town around 1781 without his ship or cargo. When the
British invaded Charles Town he and his family left for England.
Brother Harper was a very successful jeweler and business man. In 1793
he was Master of Globe Lodge (England) in 1793 and joined the Lodge of Antiquity
from 1792-1801 as Treasurer. He later joined Nine Muses Lodge from
1800-1814 and was elected Deputy Master until 1827 when he retired.
Brother Harper passed away in 1832 and was buried in England.
