Put George Washington back in Schools
George Washington stands before you in a full-length portrait by Gilbert Stuart. The painting, done in 1796, is known as the Lansdowne portrait because it was a gift to the Marquis of Lansdowne, an English supporter of American independence, from Senator and Mrs. William Bingham of Pennsylvania.
One of the originals is still hanging in the White House today as it was saved by First Lady Dolley Madison during the burning of the White House by the British during the War of 1812
For a donation of $150, a large framed portrait of this painting will be presented to a local South Carolina school.
This is a fundraiser to support Juvenile Diabetes Research.

It was commissioned by Senator and Mrs. Bingham of Pennsylvania, and was to be a present for the Marquis of Lansdowne of England, who had been so supportive of the American Revolution. He told them how First Lady Dolley Madison saved the Portrait from destruction when the British burned the White House, and how that is why it still hangs in the White House to this day. WB Palmer also told the students that not only was George Washington a Mason, but he was a Past Worshipful Master of Alexandria Lodge.
Then Brother Palmer told the students and teachers that while Wade Hampton Lodge paid entirely for the Portrait, 1/2 of the purchase price would go for Research for the cure of Pediatric Diabetes.
The Principal, Mr. Mike Thorne, thanked Br Palmer and RWB Cunningham not only for the beautiful Portrait, but also for coming and delivering it's history. After the presentation, the faculty, staff, and students came forward to get a better look at the Portrait.
The Portrait will hang just inside the main Doors to the school where everyone who enters will see it.
